Catawba Valley Ale Trail
The Catawba River, named after the Catawba Native American Tribe ("the people of the river"), has been the heart of this region for more than 12,000 years, long before European exploration. Today, the Catawba River Valley is home to over 2 million people who rely on the river for resources like power, food, and recreation.
The Catawba Valley Ale Trail focuses on the river section from Old Fort to Lake Hickory. Each segment has its own distinct culture, shaped by the surrounding landscape. The first stretch runs through the Foothills of North Carolina, where small towns and mountain culture blend to create amazing crafts—including craft beer.
This area is home to many award-winning breweries that use local ingredients and work to give back to the earth and the river. Their connection to the land and dedication to their community set them apart from your average bar. The delicious, creative beers keep visitors coming back for more. We’re fortunate to have these breweries in our region, and we hope you discover new, inventive brews while enjoying the charm of the Catawba River Valley.
