Why Downtown Newton?

Downtown Newton is the city's historic core, anchored by the 1924 Catawba County Courthouse, which currently houses the Catawba County Historical Society.

Downtown Newton is the central community gathering place. Newton’s downtown encourages residents and visitors to congregate for local golf cart parades, street festivals, music concerts, and several holiday events, reinforcing the sense of place. Participating in these shared experiences and creating memories is the core of what binds us together and makes a community.

Downtown Newton
is the ideal incubator for new businesses benefiting from the success and mentoring of neighboring businesses and providing essential goods and services for the community at large.

Downtown Newton
represents a significant portion of the city's tax base. Property owners enhance the city's tax base, and local shopping and visitors help keep taxes and profits in the community.

The Downtown Newton Development Association cultivates entrepreneurship and mixed-use development, embracing cultural, visual, and performing arts along with preserving the history of downtown Newton, thus creating a safe and active family lifestyle.
