McGalliard Falls Park

Details

Discover this hidden gem featuring a volleyball court, picnic facilities, restrooms, and the stunning 40-foot McGalliard Falls. A picnic shelter is available for rent through the Valdese Recreation Department at 879-2132. Built in 1906 by Fred Meytre, the historic Meytre Grist Mill stands as both a tribute to the past and a working attraction. Originally powered by a water wheel, the mill transitioned to turbine power after a flood in 1916. Meytre operated the mill until 1941, grinding cornmeal, flour, and livestock feed. Rebuilt in 1982 with the creation of McGalliard Falls Park, the mill now operates under FDA regulations, limiting its output to non-consumable products.
