The renovation and addition project at the Hickory Metro Convention Center is about 95 percent complete. As of October 4, there are still a few items left to complete, which we are excited to update you on below.
Work by the Convention Center Main Entrance
Concrete and paving work by the Convention Center’s Main Entrance was completed in August, and during the month of September, most of the steel structure for the awning cover at the main entrance was finished. The main entrance cover has been extended by 15 feet, adding a more attractive entrance and extending where guests can stand to stay out of the sun or rain. The last piece of this project is installing the custom-made glass panels and they are expected to be installed in December.
The covered walkway connecting the parking deck to the convention center was built in September. During the first week of October, bollards were installed in front of the columns on the covered walkway. The bollards are set to be painted in October.
Paving also took place near the main entrance the first week of October. There are a few details left with paving that include striping some parking spaces as well as painting directional arrows.
Audio Visual Update
Baker AV installed the 32-foot by 9-foot video wall in the pre-function area the week of September 23. This space offers floor-to-ceiling windows and an elegant open concept. While plans are still in the works for how this space will continue to take shape, it is exciting to envision it being used for many different functions. More information will be shared on this space as plans develop.
