Construction is moving forward here at the Hickory Metro Convention Center! June has been a month full of rain, pushing the construction crew to work primarily inside the convention center but see below the great progress that is underway.
The Catawba rooms, which are undergoing a significant renovation, have been the main focus for the construction team here at the Hickory Metro Convention Center. They are currently still in demolition mode, safely working to remove old building materials such as old carpet, moveable wall tracks, bathrooms, and more. The biggest progress has come at the end of June with the crews cutting openings into the Catawba room walls (see photo above)! All this is in preparation to create a better layout for our customers and clients. This will also become a connector to the expansion which will soon have significant progress as well if the weather cooperates.
Temporary wooden walls have gone up in the Hickory hallway to convert an underused space into a new classroom meeting room!
New informational signage about the expansion and renovation has been placed along our construction site's front and back fencing.
The West parking lot, where our new expansion is underway, has been graded, and a new drainage system is in place. Surveyors have been on the property marking off the ground for the new building layout. Footings and more are being prepared for the soon-to-be expansion.
New Parking Options: additional parking lots are open on or near the Hickory Metro Convention Center campus. There are three lots: 1. blue, 2. green, and 3. yellow. As always, our parking is free to you. For vendors, the unloading and loading areas have changed a bit as shown on the map above. Please be patient with each other as you are unloading. This "positive interruption" will only be for a short while and we appreciate and thank you for your patience.
